New music school celebrates major milestone

On Friday, April 19, North Valley Music School hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to acknowledge a major milestone in the Be Instrumental capital campaign.

Happily, the school’s founding families, the mayor, donors, volunteers, staff, and students gathered to break ground with representatives from the builders, Project Whitefish Kids, and architects all present.

Since launching the Be Instrumental capital campaign to build a new school, NVMS has enjoyed unprecedented, widespread community support and validation that the project is not only worthwhile but essential. A new facility is needed to meet the explosive demand for music education serve the community we all love for generations to come.

As a 26-year Whitefish institution that enriches the community by enhancing lives through the  power of music education,  NVMS impacts about 700 students of all ages and abilities each year.

In addition to offering private lessons, group classes, and summer camps, NVMS also provides scholarships music students of all backgrounds. The music school also hosts concerts, guest artists, and workshops at no cost, and prioritizes outreach programs to often overlooked groups, like Veterans for example.

Using music to build relationships, NVMS has partnered with community organizations such as the Whitefish Schools, Ravenwood Outdoor Learning Center, Glacier Symphony, the Whitefish Library, and the Nate Chute Foundation, where the school co-hosted a music and mental health panel that featured personal stories about the power of music from local teens.

To turn this vision into reality and fully fund the project, $2.3 million in additional funding is still needed. In the fall of 2025, this community can celebrate opening the doors to a safe, accessible, inclusive school.
